Astro-Kinetic Reflection:

Temporally Conditioned Reverberative Thoughts

Resulting from Astro-Kinetic Contemplation

Today Saturn remains lodged in the House of Aquarius.  Saturn symbolizes the connection to the deep recesses of time, for today’s theme especially as time devours memory.  Saturn pours deep knowledge of the unobservable past onto the entire chart.  With that backdrop, we can look to the moon as it maneuvers into the house of Virgo.  Virgo is an active and dynamic house that demands accomplishments of feats at a heroic level.  With today’s source readings, we are directed to the Moon as a symbol taking on the symbol of humility and reflection of greater glory.  It is in this humility that we work and strive.  If it is required of us, we can even cease activities we (in “our” wisdom) deem necessary if a higher power deems otherwise.

Every aspect of our source materials today implies that we work in humility, and be ready to put off work we see as important as a sacrifice of pride.  We can begin with the gospel, Matthew chapter six.   It begins, “Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.” The rest of the gospel is a litany of virtuous actions that become tainted when done for hubristic display.  In the first reading of the Office of Readings, Gideon chooses his forces, and the Lord continually chastises him for the size.  Humans tend to “go big” but God cuts Gideon’s large force down to a company of 300 men.  It is not by the size of the force that Gideon is able to conquer. It is by his humble acceptance of the Lord’s command to cut away the things that make him feel self-reliant. The second reading of the Office of Reading is Saint Cyprian’s Treatise on the Lord’s Prayer.  Saint Cyprian reminds us, “We add: Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. This is not that God should do what he wills, but so that we may be able to do what God wills. For who could resist God in such a way as to prevent him from doing what he wills? But since the devil hinders us from obeying, by thought and by deed, God’s will in all things, we pray and ask that God’s will may be done in us.”  The particular avenue of this for us today is to diminish in the sight of the world so that we can grow in the sight of God.

Our most extraordinary example is the saint we celebrated today, Blessed Donizetti Tavares de Lima.  He served as a parish priest in Brazil and became known as a miracle worker and healer. In 1955, in obedience to his bishop, Father Donizetti limited himself to normal parish work and never spoke of miracles again.  There are times for works of wonders and there are times that these works become distracting and draw glory away from God.  It is only the tempering disposition of humility that allows us to discern wisely and make prudent decisions regarding how we apply our skills. We tend to work laterally, that is for effect in “this world”.  But Saturn pours out his wisdom, reminding us that all of our accomplishments here will fade.  They will be devoured by the ever-hungry flow of time.  It is better for us to orient ourselves vertically, even though we act laterally.  The Moon growing full in Virgo may seem to imply brilliant action displayed for all.  But the light of the Moon is not it’s own.  The light comes from the Sun, and the  Moon must learn the rhythm of brightening and dimming as an exercise of will until all glory can be naturally given to God.
