Astro-Kinetic Reflection:

Temporally Conditioned Reverberative Thoughts

Resulting from Astro-Kinetic Contemplation

Tonight, the Moon is full, and just on the cusp of leaving the House of Sagittarius for the House of Capricorn.  Interpreted by our three sources, the full reflective light of the Moon is emanating from a palace of wisdom and reflection, and over the next few days moves to a place of putting that wisdom to act in a ritual or sacrificial manner.  The light decreases because the mode of action may not be exactly as expected. Often we think we have a perfect grasp on wisdom only to find that we must now adapt to the abstract to life experience.

Today is the Solemnity of The Nativity of John the Baptist.  In the gospel we see John leaping in the womb of Elizabeth because he encounters the fulfillment of the wisdom he carries, even before he himself has fully developed in that wisdom.  John is a harbinger of something new. When Elizabeth asserts that his name is “John” the people say, “There is no one among your relatives who has this name.” When Zachariah indicates approval of the name, he is able to speak. Sometimes the old ways need new approaches to fully accomplish their purpose.

In the Office of Readings, Augustine says,

John is born of an old woman who is barren; Christ is born of a young woman who is a virgin. … Because John represents the old, he is born of an elderly couple; because he represents the new, he is revealed as a prophet in his mother’s womb. … Zachary is struck dumb and loses his voice, until John, the Lord’s forerunner, is born and releases his voice for him. What does Zachary’s silence mean, but that prophecy was obscure and, before the proclamation of Christ, somehow concealed and shut up? It is released and opened up by his arrival, it becomes clear when the one who was being prophesied is about to come.

Here we see a transitional fulfillment from known and useful tradition to dynamic and adaptive application. John calls for repentance, which is an inner disposition. But as a disposition, one could still claim it as “one’s own” one can feel it as one’s own and then employ one’s will to follow the Law of Moses, thus proving one’s self to God.  Jesus moves us from simple wisdom and inner disposition [Sagetarius] to a place of sacrificial application [Capricorn]. He actively sacrifices his will and ultimately his life to the Father for humanity.

The brilliant wisdom of the Full Moon in Sagittarius moves from a space of self demonstration to a place of sacrificial waning in Capricorn. Ultimately it will die to self completely. This is the nature of true wisdom, it takes knowledge and adapts it to experience for the best outcome. Though fundamental truth does not change, its use and application do. In each time and in each generation, the wisdom of the past must reach a fulfillment that then must affect and wane as it is reapplied. Otherwise, the tradition tantamount to the Moon, glorying in its light as if it were its own and not coming from the Sun. With proper beatitude, we can participate in the humility of John the Baptist. He was a successful evangelizer, and everyone sought his wisdom, the wisdom of the House of Sagittarius. But when he sees Christ in John’s Gospel, his first utterance is “Behold! The Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.”
