Astro-Kinetic Reflection
Temporally Conditioned Reverberative Thoughts
Resulting from Astro-Kinetic Contemplation
In the heavens today Mercury in retrograde, situated in Taurus, squares with Saturn, in Aquarius, creating a toxic environment. The retrograde itself is a symbol of upheaved and the inversion of all good qualities of a heavenly body. Mercury’s retrogrades, being the great communicator are the most famously dreaded. In this case Mercury squares with Saturn. A square implies conflict. The conflict is a communicative engagement with Saturn who “eats his own” in a bid for retention of power. Mercury in Taurus can be interpreted as a real world, earthly, engagement, application, or attack toward a system or systems of thought which have power dynamics in tension. The symbols seems to portented chaos and doom, but only if one is subject to the brutal systems portrayed by Saturn.
Ever since Babel, the languages of humanity have been bent on division, and doomed to fail at communicating effectively. Language is meant to unify, to “commun”-icate. But, when used to attack or destroy, the effect projects and then returns with the same destruction. The charitable person uses their words to attract, bind, and unify. In today's Gospel (Jn 17:20-26) “Jesus prayed saying: “I pray not only for these, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, so that they may all be one.”
During Mercury in retrograde there is an inversion of the communicative order. Confusing the issue is the fact that there exists a dual order, the order of the Kingdom, where communication brings harmony, and the order of “The World” where communication dominates, divides, and ultimately destroys. Our interpretation of Saturn is the deep seated concupiscent urge to eat one’s own, in this case, through language (as he abides in the air sign Aquarius). The trick to the celestial symbology shown in today’s first reading is that Mercury’s return to Square is disruptive of the world order in favor of the order of the Kingdom.
In today’s Liturgy of the Word (Acts 22:30; 23:6-11) Paul in on trial. The context is a brutal authority that seeks to retain power by bringing to bear law and logic in order to squelch charity. Paul is a harmonizer who places love above law. His mission is to bring fulfillment in Christ. The strategy of his accusers is to crush him through an alliance of convince. But an alliance of convenience is not a union of charity. It is a contention, set aside to deal with mutual enemies. Paul uses the symbols our celestial patter to exploit their communicative weakness and throw them into chaos.
In 23:6 it states, “Paul was aware that some were Sadducees and some Pharisees, so he called out before the Sanhedrin, “My brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of Pharisees; I am on trial for hope in the resurrection of the dead.” When he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the group became divided.” Eventually Paul is rescued by the guard amidst the tumult he created.
Mercury in retrograde is only dangerous to those who follow the order of the world, trapped in the spell of Babel. For those of the kingdom it is a symbol of action, an invitation to demonstrate the futile nature of division and countering by become a sign of love abiding in a hostile world.
